19.5 DAYS SHOOT FOR ‘KASTURI NIVASA’ = BHAGWAN

A stalwart director of Kannada cinema SK Bhagwan of Dorai Bhagwan duo was down memory lane recalling the 70’s film ‘Kasturi Nivasa’ that was made in black and white starring Dr Rajakumar, Jayanthi, Aarathi, Rajashanker in Chi Udayashanker lyrics, GK Venkatesh Music.

The color version of ‘Kasturi Nivasa’ is releasing this month makes Bhagwan immensely happy. It was 43 years ago the film was first released. The small snow ball became a mountain of snowball after release says Bhagwan.

We took the rights of the story from G Balasubramaniama. It was rejected by Shivaji Ganeshan in Tamil. Varadappa brother of Dr Rajakumar had seen something magnificent in it and narrated script to him.

When the inquiry was made for rights the original writer said Rs.25000 plus 14000 spent on making of script should be given as rights amount. Rs.39000 cheque was immediately given to acquire story rights of ‘Kasturi Nivasa’. When the set at a cost of Rs.1 lakh was set up at Kanteerava Studio suddenly KCN Gowdru asked to stop shooting. Gowdru spoke with Dr Rajakumar and he wanted it in color at that time. He was convinced by Dr Rajakumar and it was finally made in Black and White.

Gowdru gave the distribution amount of Rs.3.75 lakhs and the film was finished in that amount in 19 and half days. The sound recording of the film KN was done at Sri Chamundeswari studio but processing was done in Madras says Bhagwan.

Kasturi Nivasa was a huge hit and we got first payment of Rs.6 lakhs in those days. Later it made huge money recalls SK Bhagwan.
